Attended Layton School of Art for two years. Education interrupted when draft notice was received. Declared 1A for two years in the Army. Enlisted for 4 years in the Navy instead. Attended Navy Photo School at NAS Pensacola and became a photographer trained in still, motion picture and aerial photography. Knowledge of photography was useful when I became a commercial artist after discharge. Started my career at Milprint, Inc. as a creative artist. Moved to Western Publishing’s commercial art department as a creative artist. Worked at Design North as office/production manager. Retired from SC Johnson art department in 1992.
During my working years it was great to be at a drawing board during the day, then come home to my studio drawing board. I did early paintings in acrylic before I discovered transparent watercolor. Did many paintings during those evening hours and won some honors:
• First award in Watercolor Wisconsin
• Award of Honor in Watercolor Wisconsin
• Purchase award for Wustum’s permanent collection
• Signature member Watercolor Wisconsin Society
• Signature member National Watercolor Society
• Painting included in North Light book SPLASH 3
• Article on my reflection paintings in American Artist magazine
• Finalist in several The Artist Magazine competitions
• Runner-up in Arches Watercolor Competition
