Joyce Eesley was born in Michigan and attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. She continued her studies at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI receiving a BA in Art Education. After teaching art at all grade levels in local schools she retired to devote more time to creating art.
Encouraged to be creative as a young child by an artistic mother and teachers motivated her to be artistic. Joyce has always been intrigued by the process of creating and amazed by the outcome. Recently, she has devoted her time and energy to watercolor painting. What fascinates her most about watercolor is the subtlety of the medium, immediacy of results, endless possibilities, and variations that can be achieved. In each of her paintings she tries to find the beauty in the subject matter whether it is the withered fallen leaf or elegant rose. When she arranges still lifes she chooses attractive or captivating objects and materials. She is always looking for unusual perspectives to keep her work interesting and original. In Joyce’s paintings of nature and still lifes she strives to achieve a convincing portrayal of subject matter to immortalize the image through the dramatic use of color, shadow and form. Her renderings are convincing enough capturing volume, texture and color to tell a story or remind us of life’s beauty and human presence.
