The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists. It was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose now as then has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Artist Statement

Having always been interested in visual arts, I paint out of a need to express ideas and states of mind that I cannot communicate in any other way. Art is a bridge between the universe and its living guests. In that sense, paintings are open windows that invite you to leap in, open your mind to the unknown, and discover a world full of amazing new objects and sensations. I view a painting as successful if I and others see that window and feel the urge to jump in. In addition, art offers unique opportunities to awaken awareness of human rights and improve people’s condition on earth. Watercolor and inks are my favorite media. They have unique properties that enable blending detail with fuzziness, and bold colors with delicate nuances. These media offer endless possibilities — still mostly unexplored — and allow spontaneous flow, experimentation, sheer fun, and control/surprise to be part of the art-making experience.
